O Neill
Can someone give me a brief summary on the Sheff Vs. O’Neill Connecticut desegregation case? And any sources?
Basically, I’m stumped on this project I’m doing about Connecticut desegregation, and I was chosen to do the settlement of Sheff Vs. O’Neill. For me it’s very hard to find any information, let alone do a project and an essay…So if someone could please guide me in the right direction with some resources, info and anything else that would be great. Thanks.

Basically, Hartford is a city. In the years after Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, whites left many cities to move to the suburbs (google White Flight). This left cities with mostly minority schools and a limited tax base. City schools suffered while suburban schools prospered. Sheff v. O’Neill was a suit on behalf of some inner city children saying that they were receiving a substandard education. The Court decided that school districts couldn’t result in racial and ethnic isolation, that school districts couldn’t be strictly tied to city boundaries. the solution has been inter-district busing, magnet schools, and other things.
